We went to a pet adoption sidewalk event today and it was puppy-mania! Although a puppy is a huge commitment for many many years, I can easily see how they become impulse purchases. Soon enough Mr. Granola and I will have a little dog, but for now our lifestyle and my travel schedule doesn't allow for one.
Please, please, please refrain from buying pets from breeders. There are so many lovable and adorable companions in need of homes or foster homes. You would be surprised how many people drop their well-behaved, house trained pets at the shelter because they have to move cross country for a job, they've gone through a divorce, or simply don't want a pet anymore. I can't wait to adopt a doggie of our own...crossing my fingers it will be this year!
